Concert for schools featured saxophones from the Covert Ensemble
Oct. 13, 2026
The traditional Concert for Schools was truly exceptional! 1. The outstanding ensemble Covert Ensemble, comprising the brilliant musicians Kateřina Pavlíková (Czech Republic), Dave Camwell (USA) and Ladislav Fančovič (Slowakia). 2. An excellent selection of pieces 3. A wonderful atmosphere in the concert hall at Music school of Jihlava.
The concert opened with a piece by Johann Sebastian Bach, although Bach could not, of course, have written anything for the saxophone, as Adolph Sax invented the instrument around 1840 and patented it in 1846. Incidentally, he was Belgian. Pupils from Křížová Primary School also listened to other pieces, whilst Kateřina Pavlíková and Dave Campbell demonstrated that it is possible to play tennis with a saxophone.
